It’s funny what ends up defining us. You can bet that at the time, Wales’ ancient cultures or the farmers, mill workers, carders and fullers that shaped Wales’ wool industry did not think that what they were doing would have an impact that would resonate down the centuries. But the country’s huge array of ancient sites – the first-known ritual burial site in Northern Europe included – and a wool heritage that arguably influenced the country more (and for longer) than it did anywhere else in the world: these are massive, massive legacies. And discovering these can take Wales-bound travellers on quite some journey! A journey that transports you from the National Wool Museum in Mid Wales to poignant stone circles in the Berwyn Mountains of North Wales and the UK’s earliest cave art (South Wales)… I had great fun writing these two, and providing associated video content, for Visit Wales.
